I came home from my pilgrimage - walking 500 miles across Spain on the Camino Del Norte - at the beginning of June. Since then, countless clients and friends have asked me to summarize that adventure, as well as the other adventure - being back in 3-D reality. So, here goes....
My time walking across Spain was nothing short of transformative. What began as a desire to disconnect from the noise of the world became a profound exploration into the depths of my own soul.
Unplugging from the incessant chatter of social media, “news” updates, and everyday demands allowed me to hear my own thoughts again. I’m not just talking about putting my phone on silent for a day—I mean completely disconnecting from the digital circus we call life for five full weeks. What a gift that was! No reminders, no notifications, no reels, no scrolling, nada. It was like hitting the reset button on my soul. Suddenly, I had all this mental space to see clearly, to feel deeply, and to confront what was really going on inside.
It is like nature herself whispered, “Hey Candace, slow down and listen.” And listen I did. I realized that amidst all the noise and busyness back home, I had lost touch with what truly matters—my connection to something greater than myself. It was as if I had been swimming in a sea of distractions, and suddenly, I found myself on the shores of clarity.
Walking day after day I had ample time to reflect. I realized that so much of what fills our lives—the collecting of material possessions, fleeting achievements, endless busyness, unhealthy distractions—only serves to mask a deeper emptiness within. We fill our days with noise, hoping it will drown out the whispers of our soul asking for attention.
The Camino taught me that true fulfillment comes from reconnecting with ourselves and with something greater—call it Source, God, Universe, Allah, Budda, Love, or whatever works for you. This energy, this presence flows through everything and everyone. We are not separate from this higher power; we are manifestations of it, each of us a unique expression of divine energy.
In the silence of the Camino, I rediscovered my personal truth: I am who I’ve been waiting for. Not a future version of myself, not something outside of me to aspire to, but the person I am right now, in this moment. It is a profound realization that shifts my focus from external validations to internal alignment. And it is my responsibility, my privilege and honor, to keep choosing me—to keep choosing alignment over distraction, presence over noise, and love over fear.
After being unplugged for so long, it makes sense that re-entry has been challenging. The noise did its best to rush back into my life, demanding my attention and threatening to drown out the clarity. But I remind myself daily that it is my responsibility to stay connected—to REMEMBER that I am part of something greater. It is my responsibility to stay connected to Source, to myself—and to resist the allure of distractions that try to pull me away from what truly matters. Walking wasn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other; it was about reclaiming my inner compass and finding peace within.
So, my friends, if you’re feeling that tug of emptiness, or drowning in the noise and distractions of modern life, consider this your sign. I invite you to take a break, take a step back from the 3-D circus. Disconnect from the noise as often as you can, for as long as you can, and listen to the whispers of your soul.
And remember, you are who you’ve been waiting for. Embrace the journey within—it is where the magic happens.
Until next time, I Walk.
